Group Facilitator 'The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.' All our our projects offer a range of activities. If you look at 'activities on offer' you'll get a good idea of some of the things that are going on across the wide and wonderful world of Build on Belief. It's not that we're greedy, but we are always looking to add more, and then more yet. Why, you may ask? Well, we know that for some our services users, the opportunity to learn a new skill with friendly facilitators can open up the door to a whole new way of life, create new passions and inspire new hobbies, helping them to leave the world of substance use behind and head for the sunlit uplands of recovery. WHAT SORT OF ACTIVITIES ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Anything artistic is always a good place to start. Simple jewellery making perhaps, or pottery using clay that doesn't need to be fired in a kiln. Making postcards or collages, or modelling with matchsticks! Basket making or learning to draw in charcoal. Playing a musical instrument or learning to sing. Learning to take digital photographs and edit them afterwards. Whatever you are interested in sharing and helping others to learn, we will do our best to make happen! ANYTHING ELSE? As you can see under our 'activities on offer' page, we are interested in any form of gentle exercise, whether it be yoga, circuit training or Tai Chi. Perhaps you can teach a simple form of meditation or mindfulness. Perhaps you can teach people the pleasures of gardening or fishing. The sky is literally the limit when it comes to your ideas! WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TOOLS OR EQUIPMENT? Provided it's not too expensive, we will pay for whatever you need. We should mention that like all small charities we are constricted by funding in the services we can afford to provide, but if it's not too expensive, we're up for it! (Someone once asked us for a water-cooled tile cutter and we reluctantly had to say no!) Tell us what you need, and we'll see what we can do! DO I GET PAID? We often test out new activities for a few weeks to see if people are interested in doing them, but if they are we are willing to discuss small payments in return for your time and skill. We cannot afford to pay market rates, however much you might deserve it, but if we can afford to make a token payment, we will! WHO DO I SPEAK TO IF I HAVE AN IDEA AND WHAT TO HELP? Feel free to ring either Becca Walker or Tim Sampey and discuss your ideas. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit 'our services', find the nearest one to you and get in touch with the service manager. They will be happy to make time to sit down over a cup of tea and look at making your activity a reality.
